Virtual design of composite materials by multiscale modelling

Objective 6

It shall be developed a multi-scale strategy that could allow us to predict the mechanical behaviour of composite materials subjected to multiple loads (statics/ dynamics) which will integrate experimental and numerical methods. The objective is to develop and validate a design/ virtual testing multi-scale method in which physical damage mechanisms would be taken into account. The main advantage offered by this multi-scale bottom-up methodology is that it allows changes in constituents properties (fibres, matrices), in fibres architecture or in multilayers disposition to predict the macroscopic behaviour of carbon fibre with thermoplastic matrix and heat-stable composite materials and thermosetting for aerospace applications.
